We have been having a great summer so far at Gold Star! Since the beginning of June there have been a ton of practices and tournaments for all age groups. It is really special to see how far the girls and the teams have come. The most rewarding thing as a coach is seeing a player grow, learn new things, and become more CONFIDENT! That plus TEAMWORK is the key to a successful summer!

Here is review of how the first half of the summer went:

IWLCA New England Cup @ UMASS Amherst ~ HS Recruiting Tournament

We kicked off the summer with the IWLCA New England Cup tournament at UMASS Amherst on June 9th and 10th This is a huge recruiting tournament, and a great way for players to be seen by Division 1, 2 and 3 coaches. Pretty much every New England area school is represented! Gold Star 2021 played in a competitive bracket, and went 1-1-2. The girls put 100% effort out on the field, and did well playing together. The execution wasn’t always perfect, but the ideas and teamwork were awesome!! We are confident this team will only continue to get better. Gold Star 19/20 played in the open division and went 3-1, only losing the first game to NorCal Rize by 1. This team was super fun to watch!! These girls have come a long way!! The midfield draws, ground balls and transition were top notch, and there was just a ton of heart and hustle all over the field. Everyone played together on offense and the defense was always communicating. Way to go girls!

New England Invitational @ UMASS Amherst ~ Youth Tournament

On Sunday while the high schoolers were playing at UMASS Boyden fields, our youth teams kicked off their summer with the NEI tournament right down the road at McGuirk Stadium! We had two 7/8th grade teams play in the 8th grade (2022) bracket – Gold Star Air Force, and Gold Star Coast Guard. Gold Star Air Force went 4-0 in pool play and went on to the semi-finals before falling to Mass Elite Red. Gold Star Coast Guard also did awesome going 3-1 in pool play! Both teams did well at the draws, connecting passes through the midfield, man-to-man defense, and being a threat on offense. We also had Gold Star Marines 24/25 playing in a tough 2024 division. The team ended 1-3, but we saw a lot of bright spots in the stick work department. Keep it up ladies!

Project 120 in Maryland ~ Youth 7/8th & HS

Summertime = LAX ROAD TRIP! We made the drive down to Maryland to play in the competitive Project 120 tournament. 4 Gold Star teams participated: Gold Star 19/20 went 3-0-1, Gold Star 2021 went 1-2-1, Gold Star 22/23 Army went 3-0-1 and Gold Star 22/23 Navy went 3-1. Overall, it was a GREAT weekend! We got to play club teams from all over the country, did lot of team bonding, and most importantly worked hard all over the field together! We are so fortunate to have such a committed group of players and families. It is so fun to coach these girls because they are always having FUN and COMPETING!

Xtreme Lax ~ Youth 5/6th

The Xtreme lax tournament should be renamed to Extreme HEAT! It was definitely one of the hottest days of the year. Despite the heat and only 3 subs, Gold Star 24/25 had an awesome day, going 2-2. It was really great to see the stick work and teamwork clicking for a lot of players. Our defense looked good, with players marking up, seeing ball and girl, and communicating!! Although we need to work on our shooting, this group was so fun to coach… the future is bright!
